If you’ve just changed the oil or completed maintenance, resetting the oil life indicator is a quick, tool-free process. For most Honda Pilot models, you can restore the oil life to 100% either through the Driver Information Interface on newer trims or with the odometer/trip button on older ones.
What the Maintenance Minder does
The Honda Pilot’s Maintenance Minder tracks when you should service the vehicle based on engine oil life and driving conditions. After an oil change, you reset the oil life to 100% so the system can accurately warn you later. Depending on the year and trim, the reset is done either via the driver information display or the physical trip/oil life buttons on the gauge cluster.
Reset methods by model year
Recent models (2016–present) via the Driver Information Interface
Use the vehicle’s Driver Information Interface and steering-wheel controls to reset the oil life on newer Pilots.
- Turn the ignition to ON with the engine OFF.
- On the Driver Information Interface, cycle to the Oil Life or Maintenance Minder screen using the steering-wheel controls or dashboard buttons.
- Press and hold the SELECT/RESET button (or the dedicated reset control) for about 5–10 seconds until the oil life displays as 100% or you see a confirmation message.
- Release the button and verify that the Oil Life shows 100% on the display.
Concluding: The oil life is reset to 100%, and future oil-life calculations will restart from that baseline based on your driving.
Older models (pre-2015) using the odometer/trip button
For pilots with an analog gauge cluster and the odometer/trip button, reset the oil life with the display the same way you navigate other maintenance screens.
- Turn the ignition to ON with the engine OFF.
- Use the Trip/ODO button to cycle the display until you reach the Oil Life percentage screen.
- Press and hold the Trip/Reset knob (or the dedicated reset button) for about 5–10 seconds until Oil Life resets to 100% (or you see a reset confirmation).
Concluding: The maintenance minder is reset, and the system will start counting down from 100% oil life again as you drive.
Common notes and tips
Always perform an oil change before resetting the Maintenance Minder. Resetting without changing the oil can mask overdue maintenance. If the reset doesn’t take, double‑check you followed the exact button sequence for your model year, and consult the owner's manual or a Honda service center for model‑specific guidance.
