Does a Honda Accord have a driveshaft?

No. The standard Honda Accord is a front-wheel-drive sedan and does not use a long driveshaft to power a rear axle. Power travels from the engine into a front transaxle and then to the front wheels through CV half-shafts.

Drivetrain basics for the Accord

In the typical Accord setup, the drivetrain is designed around front-wheel drive. The key components handling power delivery are the front transaxle and the front CV axles. Here’s how it breaks down:

  • Transaxle: A single housing that combines transmission and differential for front-wheel drive.

  • Front CV axles (half-shafts): Two shafts that carry power from the transaxle to the front wheels, using constant-velocity joints to accommodate steering and suspension movement.

  • Rear driveshaft: Not present in standard Accord models because there is no rear differential powering rear wheels.

In practical terms, that means the Accord uses front-wheel drive with CV shafts rather than a traditional long driveshaft to the rear axle.

What about all-wheel drive?

In the United States, the Accord lineup has not offered an all-wheel-drive option. There is therefore no factory-installed rear driveshaft on current US-spec Accords. Some markets or related Honda models may explore AWD configurations, but they are not part of the standard Accord sold here.

If an AWD system were present, you would typically expect a driveshaft running from the front transaxle to a rear differential and additional rear shafts. That configuration is not applicable to the current Accord lineup.

Summary

The Honda Accord, as currently sold in the U.S., is a front-wheel-drive vehicle that uses a front transaxle and CV half-shafts to drive the front wheels. It does not include a rear driveshaft. An AWD option has not been offered for the current Accord, though drivetrain configurations can vary in other regions or Honda models.
