The maintenance required light on a Toyota Tundra can be reset after you complete the scheduled service, using either the traditional trip-meter reset or the vehicle’s multi-information display. If you haven’t performed the maintenance, resetting the light is not advised and may trigger the reminder again sooner than expected.
What the maintenance light means
Two common reset methods
Method 1: Trip meter/odometer reset (traditional approach)
This method is widely used on older or more basic trim levels that rely on the standard trip/odometer display.
- Turn the ignition to the ON position with the engine off.
- Ensure the display is set to ODO (odometer) or TRIP A using the reset/selector button on the instrument cluster or stalk.
- Turn the ignition to OFF.
- Press and hold the trip meter reset button, then turn the ignition to ON again while continuing to hold the button. Keep holding until the MAINT REQ light goes out or the display shows RESET/000000.
- Release the button and start the engine to confirm the light is cleared.
Tip: If the light does not disappear after about 5–10 seconds, repeat the process from the beginning. Some model-year variations require cycling the ignition a couple of times.
Method 2: Reset via the Multi-Information Display (MID) or Settings menu
Many newer Tundra models use a central display menu to manage maintenance reminders. Use this method if your truck has a digital MID with settings for maintenance resets.
- Turn the ignition to ON with the engine off and verify the odometer display is active (ODO).
- Press the MENU/SET or OK button on the steering wheel to access the vehicle’s settings on the MID.
- Navigate to Settings > Maintenance or Maintenance/Mreset, then select Reset or Reset Maintenance.
- Confirm the reset when prompted, then exit the menu and turn the ignition OFF.
- Start the engine to verify the light is cleared.
Note: The exact menu names and navigation paths can vary by year and trim, but the general flow is Settings > Maintenance > Reset. If you don’t see a Reset option, consult your owner’s manual for the precise steps for your build year.
