Where is the air filter in an Infiniti Q50?

There are two air filters in the Infiniti Q50: the engine air filter, located in the engine bay on the passenger side, and the cabin air filter, tucked behind the glove box. This guide explains where to find each filter and how to replace them, with guidance that covers typical model years from 2014 onward.

Engine air filter: location and access

Locate the engine air filter box in the engine bay. It’s a large rectangular black housing toward the front of the bay on the passenger side, where the intake hose from the grille connects to the box.

  • Open the hood and identify the rectangular air filter housing on the passenger side of the engine bay.

  • Release the housing lid by unhooking the clips or removing the screws that secure it. Some models use simple plastic clips; a flat-head screwdriver may help pry them loose.

  • Lift the lid and remove the old engine air filter.

  • Inspect the filter for dirt, debris, and signs of wear. If it looks dirty or clogged, replace it with a new OEM-style filter.

  • Insert the new filter in the same orientation as the old one, making sure the airflow arrow points toward the engine.

  • Reattach the lid and secure the clips or screws, then lower the hood.

Maintenance intervals depend on driving conditions. In normal conditions, plan for replacement around 15,000–30,000 miles, while dusty or harsh environments may require more frequent changes. Always check the owner’s manual for the exact interval for your vehicle.

Cabin air filter: location and access

The cabin air filter sits inside the vehicle, behind the glove box, filtering air before it enters the HVAC system.

  • Open the glove box and gently lower it or press the sides inward to release the damper so the box can hang down.

  • From the passenger side of the glove box, locate the cabin air filter cover on the HVAC housing.

  • Release the cover by pressing the tabs or sliding out any retaining pins, then remove the old filter.

  • Note the correct orientation of the new filter (airflow direction) and install it into the housing.

  • Reattach the filter cover and lift the glove box back into place, ensuring it closes smoothly.

Cabin filter replacement intervals vary with climate and usage. A common guideline is once per year or every 15,000–25,000 miles, but if you notice reduced airflow, musty odors, or increased dust inside the cabin, replace sooner.

Summary

For the Infiniti Q50, you’ll manage two filters: the engine air filter in the engine bay on the passenger side and the cabin air filter behind the glove box. With basic tools and careful attention to orientation, both filters can be inspected and replaced to maintain engine performance and cabin air quality. Always refer to the owner’s manual for model-year specifics and recommended replacement intervals.
