Is the Honda Ridgeline trunk insulated?

No. The Ridgeline's in-bed trunk is not insulated or temperature-controlled; it's a waterproof, lockable storage chamber under the bed floor designed to keep items dry rather than maintain a specific temperature.

What is the Ridgeline's in-bed trunk?

The Ridgeline features an "in-bed trunk" — a lockable storage cavity built into the bed floor that sits under the truck bed. Access is gained by lifting the bed floor panel with a handle. It helps keep tools, gear, and valuables dry and secure without using up interior cabin space.

Access and capacity

In most model years, the in-bed trunk provides about 7.3 cubic feet of storage space. The compartment is sealed to be weatherproof and includes a drain so water that enters the bed area can be drained away. It is lockable with the vehicle’s keys for security.

  • Lockable storage under the bed floor

  • Weatherproof, with a seal to keep moisture out

  • Drain plug or drain system to remove any water that enters

  • Accessible by lifting the bed floor panel from the rear of the bed

  • Approximately 7.3 cubic feet of storage capacity (varies slightly by trim/year)

These features combine to make the in-bed trunk a dry, secure storage zone that complements the standard truck bed rather than modifying its climate.

Is it insulated or temperature-controlled?

Honda does not market or advertise insulation or climate control for the in-bed trunk. Third-party reviews consistently describe it as a dry, weatherproof storage space, not a refrigerated or heated compartment.

What this means in practice is that the trunk does not actively cool or heat stored items and there is no insulation designed to regulate temperature. Items stored there are kept at ambient truck bed temperature, subject to outside conditions.

  • No insulation to maintain a fixed temperature

  • No heater or cooling system

  • Not climate-controlled or refrigerated

  • Built with weatherproof seals to protect from moisture

If you need temperature-controlled storage, you would need an external cooler or separate thermally controlled solution; the in-bed trunk isn't designed for that purpose.

Practical considerations for using the trunk

For best results, treat the in-bed trunk as a dry-storage compartment for tools, camping gear, or items that don’t require temperature control. Keep electronics and perishables out of direct contact with any potential moisture, and use a rigid organizer or divider to maximize space utilization inside the trunk.

Summary

The Honda Ridgeline’s in-bed trunk offers a sizeable, secure, and weatherproof storage option under the bed floor but is not insulated or temperature-controlled. It provides roughly 7.3 cubic feet of space and includes a drain for moisture, making it a practical dry-storage solution rather than a refrigerated or heated one. For temperature-sensitive items, plan to use separate cooling or heating solutions outside the trunk.

Why are Honda Ridgelines not selling?

Pace. Number seven off-road. Performance reality. Check. The truth about the Ridgeline's. Off-road capability is becoming impossible to ignore.

Is the Ridgeline trunk waterproof?

The Ridgeline solves this problem by integrating a massive 7.3-cu. ft. trunk directly into the rear floor of the bed. This compartment is weather-sealed, keeping rain, snow, and road grime away from whatever you choose to store inside.

What year to stay away from Honda Ridgeline?

2006 was the worst year for the Ridgeline in performance and the number of consumer complaints registered against the vehicle. 2007 and 2008 were better years for the truck, but the Ridgeline didn't hit its stride until 2009 when it started offering peak performance more in line with its competitors.

Does the Honda Ridgeline have a cooler in the back?

Out of all of them my favorite feature I'd say is the cooler cuz you don't see that on any other vehicle it's a cooler in the back of the truck. That you open up and it has a drain and everything.
