What you’ll need
- Replacement engine air filter compatible with your 2022 Accord (check whether you have the 1.5L turbo or 2.0L turbo)
- Clean rag or microfiber cloth
- Gloves (optional)
- Flat-head screwdriver or small pliers (if your housing uses screws or stubborn clips)
- Flashlight (optional, for better visibility)
Locate and open the air filter housing
Step-by-step replacement
- Park the car on a level surface, turn off the engine, and engage the parking brake. Open the hood and locate the engine air filter housing.
- Check how the housing is secured. If there are clips, unclip them; if there are screws, remove them with the appropriate screwdriver.
- Lifting the cover, carefully remove the old air filter. Note its orientation and the direction of any arrows indicating airflow on the filter.
- Inspect the inside of the air box for debris. Wipe it clean with a rag if needed, but do not rinse with water.
- Place the new filter into the housing in the same orientation as the old one, ensuring it seats evenly and creates a good seal around the edges.
- Reattach the housing cover and secure the clips or screws. Close the hood and start the engine to verify it runs smoothly and there are no air leaks.
Tips and troubleshooting
- Always align the filter so the airflow arrows point toward the engine; incorrect orientation can reduce filtration effectiveness.
- Make sure the seal around the filter is intact and the housing is fully closed to prevent unfiltered air leaks.
- In dusty or dirty environments, check or replace the filter more frequently, as recommended in the owner’s manual.
