Does a Honda CR-V have a clutch?

The latest Honda CR-V models sold in the United States and most markets do not have a clutch pedal. They use a Continuously Variable Transmission (CVT) in standard trims or an hybridized CVT (e-CVT) in the hybrid variant, which means there’s no manual gear-shift or clutch for the driver.

Current CR-V transmissions

Two main drivetrain options exist today, both without a traditional clutch pedal:

How CVT and e-CVT work in the CR-V

Non-hybrid CR-V models rely on Honda’s Continuously Variable Transmission (CVT), which provides seamless, variable gear ratios for smooth acceleration and improved efficiency. The CR-V Hybrid uses an electronic CVT (e-CVT) that coordinates the gasoline engine with electric motors as part of Honda’s hybrid system, again without a manual clutch.

  • Non-hybrid CR-V models use a Continuously Variable Transmission (CVT) for smooth, efficient automatic operation.

  • CR-V Hybrid models use an electronic CVT (e-CVT) as part of the hybrid powertrain, coordinating gasoline and electric motors without a traditional clutch.

In both cases, you won’t find a clutch pedal or a manually shifted gear option in current US-spec models.

Historical context

For reference, older Honda CR-V generations offered manual transmissions in some overseas markets and trims. However, in the modern US lineup and most regions, the CR-V is equipped with CVT or hybrid e-CVT, with no manual clutch.

What this means for buyers

If a traditional manual transmission is a must-have for you, you’ll need to consider older CR-Vs from markets where a manual was offered or explore other Honda models that historically provided a manual option. For most buyers, the CVT or hybrid e-CVT provides easy operation and strong fuel efficiency.

Summary

In today’s CR-V lineup, there is no clutch. The vehicle uses CVT automatic transmissions in standard models and a hybrid e-CVT in the hybrid variant, delivering clutch-free driving across the range. Older, non-US market variants may have featured a manual transmission, but that is not part of the current US or global CR-V offerings.
