Do S2000 come in automatic?

No. The Honda S2000 was sold exclusively with a 6-speed manual transmission; there was never a factory automatic option in any market or generation.

Factory transmission facts

The car was built in two generations, AP1 and AP2, and in every case shipped with a six-speed manual gearbox. The emphasis on driver engagement and high-revving performance meant Honda did not provide an automatic option from the factory.

AP1 (1999–2003)

Initial US and international models used the F20C 2.0-liter engine paired to a six-speed manual transmission. There was no factory automatic version offered for AP1.

AP2 (2004–2009)

The second generation tweaked the engine to the F22C1 2.2-liter and refined handling, but it continued to be sold exclusively with a six-speed manual gearbox; no official automatic variant was added during AP2’s run.

Aftermarket options and considerations

Some enthusiasts have explored non-factory approaches to changing the transmission, including aftermarket or professional conversions. These projects are uncommon, costly, and involve significant modification to the driveline, electronics, and chassis. They are not supported by Honda and can affect reliability, resale value, and daily usability.

What this means for buyers and collectors

If you’re shopping for an S2000 today, expect a manual-only example. If an automatic transmission is a must-have, the S2000 is not the right choice, and buyers might consider other sports cars or modern convertibles with factory automatics. For enthusiasts, however, the manual S2000 remains a benchmark for driver engagement and high-revving character.

Summary

The Honda S2000 was never offered with a factory automatic transmission. Across both AP1 and AP2 generations, it shipped exclusively with a six-speed manual. While aftermarket conversions exist in theory, they are rare, expensive, and not officially supported. For purists and collectors, a well-maintained manual S2000 continues to represent the model’s intended driving experience.
